Canon MP245 Ink Absorber Full Reset

MP245 Waste Ink Counter Reset (Canon Printers)

Canon MP245 Ink Absorber Full Reset

If your Canon MP245 suddenly refuses to print and shows a maintenance or service warning, the ink absorber counter may have reached its limit.

Inside Canon printers, absorber pads collect excess ink from cleaning and maintenance cycles. The printer uses an internal counter to estimate pad saturation.

This page is prepared for Canon MP245. Service mode instructions are shown only when a matching series procedure is known.

Common Symptoms

  • Service / maintenance warning on the screen or driver
  • Printer refuses to print even with ink available
  • Blinking lights and queued jobs fail
  • Error reappears after restart

Clear the Ink Absorber / Waste Ink Counter

Once the counter is cleared, Canon MP245 should exit the locked state and printing should resume normally.

Warnings

Treat the reset as a maintenance step. If your printer has extremely high usage, consider cleaning/replacing absorber pads to avoid overflow.

Need a reset solution?

For best results, avoid rushing button presses—consistent timing matters.

If It Doesn’t Work

  • Power-cycle the printer and try again.
  • Repeat the service mode steps carefully (timing matters).
  • Close other Canon printer utilities while resetting.
  • Try a different USB cable/port if using PC software.
  • Use the correct Stop/Reset press count for your series.

FAQ

How many times should I press Stop/Reset?
It depends on the series. Many use 5 presses; PRO/imagePROGRAF/MG use 6 in this generator.
Does every Canon model need service mode?
No. The generator shows service mode steps only when the series procedure is known.
How long does it take?
Usually a few minutes once the correct steps are followed.
Does reset clean the absorber pads?
No. It resets the counter (software). Pads may still require physical maintenance in high-usage cases.
