Canon MG5420 Ink Absorber Full Reset
If your Canon MG5420 suddenly refuses to print and shows a maintenance or service warning, the ink absorber counter may have reached its limit.
Ink absorber pads store waste ink during normal operation. Canon firmware tracks this using a software counter and may stop printing when it reaches the limit.
This page is prepared for Canon MG5420. Service mode instructions are shown only when a matching series procedure is known.
Common Symptoms
- ‘Ink Absorber Full’ / ‘Service Required’ message
- Support/service code (varies by series)
- Printing blocked after cleaning cycles
- Reset required to continue printing
How to Enter Service Mode on Canon MG5420
If your Canon MG5420 supports service mode reset, follow the steps below before performing the counter reset.
- Turn the printer OFF.
- Press and hold Stop/Reset.
- While holding Stop/Reset, press and hold Power.
- Release Stop/Reset (keep holding Power).
- Press Stop/Reset 6 times.
- Release Power — the printer should enter service mode.
If it doesn’t work, repeat the sequence carefully. The press count depends on the series.
Perform the Waste Ink Counter Reset
After service mode is enabled (if required), the waste ink counter can be reset using a supported reset procedure/software.
Important Notes
Resetting the counter does not physically clean the absorber pads. For heavy usage, pads may eventually need cleaning or replacement.
Need a reset solution?
If your model does not show a service mode section, it means no matching procedure was found for its series.
Common Fixes
- Use the correct Stop/Reset press count for your series.
- Repeat the service mode steps carefully (timing matters).
- Try a different USB cable/port if using PC software.
- Close other Canon printer utilities while resetting.
- Power-cycle the printer and try again.
